The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences was established in 2013 under the faculty of Allied Health Sciences of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (Federally Charted University). We offer Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), which is a five-year entry level degree program. This program provides the required education necessary for graduates to embark on a professional career in physical therapy. Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University has the unique distinction of being clinically attached with state of the art and Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited Shifa International Hospitals. It is located in the heart of Islamabad; the beautiful capital of Pakistan.
The aim of physical therapy program is to assume leadership in the field of physical therapy. Physical therapy is the 7th most earning health care profession in the world. “Physical therapists help individuals to maintain, restore, and improve movement, activity, and functioning. Their services prevent and minimize impairments of functions, activity limitations, and participation restrictions. They are the movement scientists who diagnose and manage movement dysfunction by providing services that develop, maintain and restore people’s maximum movement and functional ability. In addition to this they help people at any stage of life, when movement and function are threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, disorders, conditions or environmental factors. Physical therapists help people maximize their quality of life, looking at physical, psychological, emotional and social wellbeing. They work in the health spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation.
The DPT program has contextual foundational background in biological, kinesiological and psychological sciences that are assimilated in logical and scientific manner. The graduates have the capability of providing the evidence based practice through competent skills and also by working in collaboration with other members of health care team. The clinical rotation in Shifa International Hospital has been scheduled from 5th Semester to 10th Semester which provides real exposure, insights and valuable experience to students. Students work closely with expert clinicians, experienced faculty.
